In the last exhibition flown out of central Australia before total lockdown and quarantine, Wynne prize winner, Yukultji Napangati shows us an Australia few ever see or know.
Napangati is a nine times finalist in the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Awards (NATSIAA) including this year, and won the Wynne prize for landscape painting in 2018. Her work has been included in 80 shows since she started painting in 1996 and her debut New York solo exhibition in 2019 was highly acclaimed.
“Yukultji’s work places us in the middle of the ever-changing lines, land and horizons of Australia” says Christopher Hodges, Executive Director of Utopia Art Sydney. “Waves and lines of extended landscape oscillate across canvases and throughout this whole exhibition.”
