Niagara Galleries presents work by Zhou Hongbin. Following her inclusion in the landmark exhibition Minimalism: Space, Light, Object at the National Gallery Singapore, Still Life is Hongbin’s first solo show in Australia.
Well known for her Aquarium series, in which her digitally multiplied pet rabbit swims in a liminal body of water, Hongbin has become increasingly interested in abstraction, more recently depicting geometric sculptures that no longer exist. In her Still Life series, plaster sculptures the artist made, documented, then destroyed are flattened to the point of oblivion in abstracted photographs. Works from her Aquarium series, which engaged the artist for over ten years, are shown alongside her Still Life works, presenting a restrained form of beauty, referencing early minimalist concerns and traditional Chinese art.
