One of Australia’s oldest, largest and most engaging regional galleries, Art Gallery of Ballarat brings together art in surprising ways. Located just over one hours’ drive or train from Melbourne, the gallery is the beating heart of Ballarat’s historic arts precinct. Visitors are invited to explore the heritage and contemporary galleries, take part in a talk, guided tour or workshop or browse the shop for local and original art and craft.

The Art Gallery of Ballarat’s collection is a valuable and vibrant expression of Ballarat’s – and Australia’s – history and identity. The collection display uncovers connections between artworks by exploring themes such as Country, place, home and disruption in innovative hangs that aim to inspire visitors to see things from new perspectives.

Art Gallery of Ballarat’s regularly changing temporary exhibitions range from contemporary and local artists to exhibitions exploring historical art and social history.
