Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory (MAGNT)

Located on Darwin’s spectacular ocean front, the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory (MAGNT) is the premier cultural and scientific institution for northern Australia. Visitors can experience the region’s history, art and biota through a changing program of exhibitions and displays. In addition to the gallery space, MAGNT comprises Fannie Bay Gaol, the Defence of Darwin Experience and Lyon’s Cottage in Darwin, and the Museum of Central Australia, Megafauna Central and the Alcoota Scientific Reserve in Central Australia.

THE COLLECTION

MAGNT’s collections are nationally and internationally significant resources comprising Australian visual arts and crafts, Indigenous art and material culture, South- East Asian art, specimens of natural science and historical artefacts.

AWARDS

The Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Awards (NATSIAA) is an annual award founded by MAGNT in 1984. It remains the longest running award dedicated to Indigenous art and artists. 2018 marked the 27th year of the relationship between Telstra and MAGNT. The NATSIAA comes with an attached prize value of $80,000 across seven categories of awards.
