TOWNSVILLE CITY GALLERIES operates two premier regional art gallery spaces, Perc Tucker Regional Gallery in the city’s CBD, and Pinnacles Gallery located within the Riverway Arts Centre. These venues host a selection of exhibitions, artist talks, workshops, and other events and displays for a wide audience of locals and visitors to the region.
The City of Townsville Art Collection (COTAC) holds more than 3,000 works of art and offers compelling narratives and ideas of life in “the Tropics”, whilst revealing the individuals and forces which have shaped Townsville’s long and colourful history. The multicultural collection focuses on art from North Queensland and the Pacific region, touching on Indigenous heritage, colonial settlement, the Townsville port, World War II staging posts through to the modern military base, as well as contemporary topics.
Townsville City Galleries also commissions a range of public art pieces around the city and surrounding suburbs, with the collection holding approximately 300 public artworks including public art sculptures, street art, and memorials. The street art commissions include those by both world-renowned artists and local talents such as ROA, HAHA, Fintan Magee, Lee Harnden, Kennie Deaner, Mantra, Beastman, Baby Guerrilla, Wosnan, Claire Foxton, the RUN Collective, and many more.
