Townsville City Galleries operates two premier regional art gallery spaces, Perc Tucker Regional Gallery in the city’s CBD, and Pinnacles Gallery located within the Riverway Arts Centre. These venues host a selection of exhibitions, artist talks, workshops, and other events, as well as public art displays.

The City of Townsville Art Collection (COTAC) holds more than 3,000 artworks and offers compelling narratives and ideas of life in the tropics, revealing the individuals and forces that have shaped Townsville’s history. The multicultural collection focuses on art from North Queensland and the Pacific region, touching on Indigenous heritage, colonial settlement, the Townsville port and World War II, as well as contemporary topics.

Townsville City Galleries commissions a range of public art pieces around the city and surrounding suburbs, with the collection holding approximately 300 public artworks. The street art commissions include those by both world-renowned and local talents including ROA, HAHA, Fintan Magee, Lee Harnden, Kennie Deaner, Mantra, Beastman, Baby Guerrilla, Wosnan, Claire Foxton and the RUN Collective, among others.

Townsville City Galleries hosts five premier North Queensland arts prizes of local and national significance. The award exhibitions include the North Queensland Ceramic Award, Strand Ephemera and three Percival Portrait Prizes: the Percival Portrait Painting Prize, the Percival Photographic Portrait Prize, and the Percival Animal Portrait Prize. These biennial awards offer a sizeable prize pool of $66,000, as well as the opportunity to be acquired into the City of Townsville Art Collection.
