Jennings Kerr welcomes multidisciplinary artist Birte Larsen

Southern Highlands gallery adds Danish-born artist to its stable.

Jennings Kerr has announced its representation of Danish-born, Southern Highlands-based artist Birte Larsen, known for her richly textured works that draw inspiration from everyday materials, personal history and her Danish heritage.

Larsen, who was born in 1966 in Fynen, Denmark, works across drawing, sculpture and installation, often incorporating natural and discarded materials that carry traces of a previous life. Guided by the mantra “Do what you can, where you are, with what you have,” Larsen’s practice is driven by observation, intuition and material curiosity. The quantity of material collected or grown often dictates the scale of her work, resulting in organic forms.

Larsen’s deep connection to place and process is evident in her long-term engagement with the Southern Highlands arts community. She has exhibited at galleries such as Sturt Gallery, Belconnen Arts Centre and Goulburn Regional Art Gallery, and has been a frequent finalist in major regional sculpture and drawing awards. She is currently a 2025 finalist in the Northern Beaches Environmental Art & Design Prize.

She had her debut solo exhibition On Going with Jennings Kerr in 2025. The gallery also recently featured her work in the 2024 group show Real, Still, Unreal.

Her work is held in private collections in Australia, Denmark and Aotearoa/New Zealand.
