Narrm/Melbourne’s MARS Gallery seams on a roll with new textile artist.

MARS Gallery has recently announced the newest member of their family is to be textile artist Kasia Tons, following her extraordinary solo show with the gallery. Based on Peramangk and Kaurna Country in South Australia, Tons embraces the slow pace of working with textiles and embroidery in order to explore notions of digital technology, the Anthropocene, and the many aspects of contemporary living.

MARS Gallery Director Andy Dinan says that “continuing in the MARS tradition, Kasia’s practice talks to the now and questions the future, in a personal, handmade way”.

Tons has been the subject of several solo presentations across Australia, and her work has been featured in exhibitions at a number of public institutions including QAGOMA, the Art Gallery of South Australia, Wangaratta Regional Gallery, and Ararat Gallery TAMA. The artist has held a number of international residencies, having spent time in Iceland, USA, Latvia, and the Slovak Republic. The Rothko Art Centre, Latvia, has two of her pieces in its permanent collection.

MARS Gallery will hold another solo show for the artist next year, so stay tuned.
