Olsen Gallery Announces Representation of Rachelle Lawler

Sydney-based painter known for immersive, colour-driven abstraction joins the gallery’s roster.

Olsen Gallery has announced the representation of contemporary artist Rachelle Lawler, whose practice explores the emotional and sensory impact of colour through expansive, atmospheric paintings.

Lawler’s work is characterised by layered surfaces and subtle tonal shifts that draw viewers into quiet, contemplative spaces. Rather than foregrounding narrative, her paintings develop gradually, encouraging slow looking and an intuitive engagement with colour, texture and mood. The approach reflects her interest in how colour can hold memory, place and lived experience.

Born in Victoria, Lawler grew up moving across towns in Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia. Her early exposure to wide, shifting landscapes has remained central to her practice, informing a sustained focus on space, light and the perceptual experience of environment.

Her artistic development has included short courses at the National Art School, studies in art and design at Curtin University, and extensive independent studio practice. In 2025 she was named a finalist in the Burwood Art Prize, and her work is held in private collections in Australia and the United States.

Lawler will exhibit at Olsen Gallery in early 2026.
