Sullivan+Strumpf snags Tiffany Loy

Singapore textile artist to be added to international gallery’s lineup.

Sullivan+Strumpf have announced that their newest addition is to be Singapore-based artist Tiffany Loy, an up-and-coming textile artist who is making a name for herself for her exploratory approach to artmaking.

Loy has a background in industrial design and textile weaving, having trained in Singapore, Kyoto and London. This translates into works that interrogate the practical and intellectual potentiality of her craft, with a specific interest in the concept of tension as a physical and aesthetic force. Playing with scale, material and colour, Loy creates spectacular woven pieces that are abstract or illusory in nature.

“The starting point for many of my explorations about lines and space is in the fragility of lines”, says the artist. “I try to see textiles as not just a surface, but to consider the single line that precedes that surface. From there, it spins off into something quite philosophical”.

Though early in her career, the artist already has a number of solo shows and accolades under her belt. Loy is a recipient of the DesignSingapore Scholarship, and was a recent artist-in-residence at Straits Clan and The Artling. She has also presented at exhibitions in Singapore, Kyoto, Tokyo, Seoul, London and Milan, and has undertaken site-specific installations at The Macallan House in Singapore and citizenM Hotel at Bankside in London.
