The John Glover Art Prize finalists have been revealed for 2025, showcasing a diverse collection of contemporary landscape paintings from across the globe. Celebrating the legacy of renowned colonial artist John Glover, the prize is awarded to the work judged the best contemporary landscape painting of Tasmania. Here, landscape painting is defined in its broadest sense, with the aim of stimulating conversations about its meaning and possibilities.

This year’s 42 finalists were chosen from hundreds of submissions from both emerging and established artists around the world and represent a range of perspectives on the concept of landscape.

The finalists were selected by an esteemed panel of judges: Melissa Loughnan, Fair Director at Melbourne Art Fair; Steven W. Joyce, Director & Founder of Despard Gallery; and Leslie Rice, Artist & Lecturer at National Art School.

The exhibition of the finalists’ works will be held at the historic Falls Park Pavilion in Evandale, Tasmania, from March 8 to March 16, with the official opening and announcement of the winner taking place on Friday March 7. The Glover Prize winner will receive an $80,000 prize, along with a bronze maquette of John Glover, while other awards, including the People’s Choice,  Children’s Choice and Hanger’s Choice, will also be presented during the exhibition.

Tickets for the Cocktail Party, the opening event, are available for purchase online, and the exhibition will remain open throughout the weekend for public viewing. For those unable to attend in person, a virtual tour of the exhibition is also available on the Glover Prize website.
