As COVID-19 concerns strengthen and government restrictions tighten, Art Basel becomes the latest fair to join the growing list of postponed events. Announced this morning by fair organisers, the 2020 Basel edition of Art Basel will now open on September 14 followed by VIP preview days on September 15 and 16 with public days from September 17 to 20.

“Naturally, this is a dynamic situation that we will be closely following as it develops over the next few months,” say organisers, “but we also believe that it is best to immediately focus on this new date in our efforts to deliver a successful fair.”

With new national and global restrictions and developments announced daily it’s hard to confirm if Art Basel will be able to meet its new opening date but organisers are remaining hopeful. “Our Basel fair plays an incredibly important role for our galleries in terms of sales, meeting collectors, and generating new relationships – and those needs have never been greater.”

Assuming all goes as planned in September, Art Basel will coincide with Liste Art Fair also held in Basel which today announced it postponement to 14 – 20 September 2020.
