The process of making, seeking to gain insight through exploration with, and manipulation of material matter, is an inextricable aspect of who Marianne Penberthy is.
Following a process of making releases her mind to wander – revealing and connecting her to histories of place; it allows materials to say what she cannot.
This exhibition surveys works created from 1994 to the present – from Caloundra to the Midwest. Over this time, Penberthy has nurtured her practice of making as a form of restoration. Using textiles, paper, matter from the earth, and whatever came to hand, she has undertaken journeys to explore questions of isolation, colonisation, and women’s work.
Opening Event: Friday 5 July, 6 – 8pm.
