A new series by Alex Spremberg takes inspiration from the Greek concepts of Chronos (measured time) and Kairos (the quality of time). We are preoccupied with time – its relentless passing, its indifference to human perception or intervention. In music, literature, and performance, narratives unfold sequentially. Painting, however, compresses time – each brushstroke builds upon the last, yet the final artwork exists as a singular moment of its making. This work captures two distinct moments – each canvas is halved geometrically and painted at different times, with each segment interrupting and completing one another, forming an unpredictable whole.
