Moore Contemporary presents an exhibition of new work by distinguished Australian artist Brian Blanchflower. In this exhibition Blanchflowerunveils the latest ‘Canopies’ – so titled because of their origins of looking skywards and his enduring commitment to pondering our being in the universe and in nature. In his latest works – on show for the first time – the palette is vibrant painted onto his signature raw edged hessian or canvas and the works continue to possess the profound resonance he is known to achieve with matter, colour, texture and space.

Blanchflower’s minimal works are meditative and conceptually powerful in their reductivity, offering evidence of a life-long act of seeing, reflecting and relaying. Commencing this series in 1985 the Canopies have become markers of his life journey.

The exhibition comprises five works spanning the grand to the intimate. It features a large-scale triptych through to a small painted box work, and this variance in many ways encapsulates the essence of Blanchflower’s studio practice and remarkable career. The intimacy of sketches, books and painted containers is as valued and considered as the most expansive of paintings.

Opening event: Wednesday 30 April, 5.30-7pm
