Northern Rivers Community Gallery (NRCG) presents work by Caitlin Reilly in an exhibition where the artist imbues through painting an expression of love for the area in which she lives.
In this series, local landscapes are painted on reclaimed materials – old tins and reclaimed red cedar skirting boards speaking to other histories as well as exploring surface structure in painting. These works, painted in situ and Plein Air, depict either the artist’s favourite seaside or roadside places in the Northern Rivers. In this lifelong pursuit to observe and capture these changing landscapes, every time Reilly paints outdoors, she sees something new. It is an exploration of capturing light and dark and the feeling of the mesmerising environment of a local area.
At that the heart of this body of work is the visceral ephemeral experience of place and being connected to nature.
Opening Event: Thursday 11 May, 5.30 – 7.30pm.
