This exhibition by Los Angeles-based artist Candice Lin will present recent installation works alongside a new work co-commissioned by MUMA and the 24th Biennale of Sydney. The presentation explores speculative and historical entanglements between manganese pigment, industrial mining, historical trade between Asia and Australia, and the sexual properties of sea slugs.
Known for her exploratory use of materials, Lin weaves together fiction and dark humour to engage histories of colonisation and extraction in unexpected ways. This first solo exhibition by Lin in Australia will be accompanied by the publication of newly commissioned writing on her practice by Canadian novelist and critic Larissa Lai.
Opening Event: Saturday 29 June, 3 – 5pm.
