Djakaŋu Yunupiŋu: Gurmilili, Tears of the Djulpan

April 12, 2023 - May 5, 2023

After previously representing three Yunupingu sisters from Yirrkala, Alcaston Gallery presents new works by this fourth sister, Djakaŋu Yunupiŋu, in an exhibition of recent paintings on bark and larrakitj in this debut show.

Yunupiŋu is one of the celebrated ‘seven sisters’ group of Yolŋu women artists, whose own unique artistic style embraces a limited natural palette to depict sublime and subtle interpretations of Country based on the Djulpan story, the story of the Seven Sisters constellation.

With a background in printmaking, Yunupiŋu has developed into a distinguished painter with precise technique and an exquisite sense of composition.

Opening Event: Thursday 13 April, 4.30 – 6.30pm.
