May 17, 2023 - June 2, 2023

Courtesy: the artists and Alcaston Gallery, Melbourne.

Alcaston Gallery presents The History of Art Painting the Future / Part 2 with an exclusive presentation of paintings by the late Eubena Nampitjin (c. 1921 – 2013) and the late Makinti Napanangka AM (c. 1922 – 2011), drawing from Alcaston Gallery’s unique perspective of the artists’ history and Beverly Knight’s intimate knowledge and personal experience with both artists.

This exhibition will focus on two great women from the Australian desert but specifically, on the rise of women in the History of Art. It is no coincidence that the timing was at a similar time women worldwide were seeking more recognition in the art world; actually, in all aspects of life from the early 1990s! Nampitjin and Napanangka – women of renown, women of great integrity and women who influenced our history of art.
