CBD Gallery presents an exhibition of works by George Gittoes, who was named a Member of the Order of Australia in 1997 and awarded the Sydney Peace Prize in 2015.
The Doorways paintings were created in the Yellow House rose garden and are full of mystical light and optimism. This stunning collection of works have used ancient wood stamps to create abstract works, infused with oil colour on raw linen.
“I regard the way I use my stamps as a form of drawing”, says the artist, “the ancient and divine geometry of these stamps allows me to open mystical doorways and work more directly from my subconscious”.
Opening Event: Panel Discussion with George Gittoes and Elizabeth Fortescue on Saturday 1 June, 2 – 3:30pm.
