In a fast-paced, 24/7 contemporary world of high shutter speeds, live streaming, and digital algorithms, it’s more important than ever to open your mind to what’s truly real. Join us in Ballarat to experience ‘The Real Thing’ through a stunning array of photography.

From galleries to laneways, city streets to businesses, and historic buildings, the Biennale will showcase the works of both international and Australian photographers, offering a unique perspective on the world we live in.

People Power – Platon is a comprehensive world-first exclusive-to-Ballarat exhibition of over 120 portraits of the people who have shaped our world. From the glare of Putin to the contortion of Gaddafi, the art and expression of Vivienne Westwood, the influence of Yoko Ono, the dynamism of Prince, the courage of Michelle Obama, the power of Adele, the striking features of Cate Blanchett, the memorable Kevin Rudd and his campaigns, the rebellion of Pussy RiotPlaton’s work is powerful.

Instant Warhol is a collection of 56 original Polaroid portraits of famous artists, performers, the influential and Andy Warhol himself.

Making its Australian premiere, Yvonne Todd’s The Stephanie Collection features compelling photographs and moving image, enticing curious audiences to look twice and explore their comfort levels and awkward feelings towards the works.

The world premiere of Swedish photographer Erik Johansson’s breathtaking suite of surreal landscapes and optical illusions that defy reality is a journey through the imaginary worlds he creates in How to Fly, an exhibition influenced by Erik’s childhood memories of the Swedish countryside.

This year’s festival features more than 150 artists with exhibitions in over 100 venues and spans 60 days as Ballarat International Foto Biennale continues to be Australia’s most significant and prestigious photographic festival, with exhibitions that lead the conversation about photography in the world. Celebrating its 10th biennial festival, the Ballarat International Foto Biennale attracts incredible international and Australian photographers, enriching the cultural landscape of regional Victoria every two years.
