Group Exhibition: After Fairweather

June 25, 2022 - September 3, 2022

Image credit: Chantal Fraser, ‘To be humble’ (detail), 2017. Digital print on lightbox. Moreton Bay Regional Council Art Collection.

Ian Fairweather is acknowledged as one of the greatest artists to have worked in Australia during the twentieth century.

After Fairweather engages with aspects of the artist’s extraordinary life, including his infamous 1952 raft voyage from Darwin to Indonesia; and his subsequent years on Bribie Island, where he painted his most important works.

This exhibition considers Fairweather’s legacy, as well as broader themes of journeys and cross-cultural connections, through the eyes of contemporary Australian, First Nations and diaspora artists.

Featuring three new artwork commissions by Isabel and Alfredo Aquilizan, Archie Moore and Laith McGregor, alongside works by Christopher Bassi, Aaron Butt, Bridie Gillman, Yuriyal Eric Bridgeman, TV Moore, Lawrence Daws, Chantal Fraser, Janice Peacock, Leyla Stevens and Ian Fairweather.

Exhibition curated by Hamish Sawyer.
