Fairfield City Museum & Gallery presents Language Exchange, a group exhibition guest-curated by Amy Prcevich featuring eleven Australian artists, collectives, and creatives, including six new commissions.
Language Exchange foregrounds the experience of being connected to non-English languages while living in predominantly English-speaking Australia. Artists from a range of cultural backgrounds create dialogue between the layered feelings of joy, sorrow, community, recognition, and revival that stem from the loss and acquisition of heritage languages.
Prcevich grew up in Fairfield City, where currently nearly 75% of residents speak a language other than English at home, making this a fitting place to situate the multi-lingual, cross-cultural conversations that Language Exchange shares and makes space for.
Exhibited artists include Marian Abboud with Think+DO Tank, Rainbow Chan, Anne-Louise Dadak, Kuba Dorabialski, Deanna Hitti, Jannawi Dance Clan, L-FRESH The Lion, Jazz Money, Audrey Newton, James Nguyen and Rachel Schenberg.
Talks Program: Saturday 27 April, featuring talks and performances.
