Wendy Hubert, Storm Comin’, acrylic on canvas, 75x75cm
“For Yindjibarndi, all creation is written in our landscape and was sung long ago, filling our country with sacred meanings and deep religious significance.”
In Our Ngurra, Yindjibarndi artists skillfully weave together sacred stories of their Ngurra (Country) through a diverse array of contemporary art forms, blending powerful narratives with innovative expressions to keep their culture strong and enduring.
Our Ngurra features the work of Wendy Hubert, Judith Coppin, Jean Norman, June Djiagween, Lorraine Coppin, Alice Guiness & Mahsari Walker and is presented by BSG Projects and Juluwarlu Art Group.
“Here at Juluwarlu, it’s always been our passion to teach the next generation, because they [the Elders] gave it to us for that reason. So we’re using any media form: digital media, sculpture, anything to do with an art canvas, and we’re putting it out there to teach Yindjibarndi culture. And if that’s the way to go for the next generation to learn my culture, or learn our culture, it’s important that we keep doing that.”
