The Woo Woo is the third of four group exhibitions to take place at sweet pea’s sibling space at Lawson Flats in 2023.
Each exhibition will explore ways to imbue the so-called ‘ordinary’ with meaning and power.
‘Out in the woo woo’ is an often dismissive phrase used to describe ideas or a series thoughts that are unscientific, unproductive and not grounded in reality. The phrase itself conjures a topsy turvy physical world outside of our reality which is built through wooly and muddled trains of thoughts and language. The Woo Woo features artists who all incorporate language, words and utterances into their work, showing how chit-chat, groans, profanity and bureaucratic speech can all produce new realities.
This exhibition has been made possible with support from the West Australian government through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.
Exhibited artists include Jessee Lee Johns, Ida Lawrence, Curtis Taylor and Gemma Watson.
Opening Event: Friday 14 July, 6 – 8pm.
