For her upcoming exhibition, Jaime Jenkins continues to push the definitions of what clay can and should do. In 2023 Jaime travelled to America, Europe, and the UK and was particularly inspired by the galleries and museums in New York, and the ancient architecture and history in Greece and Italy. When Jenkins arrived back in Aotearoa she took up a residency on Great Barrier Island – an Island 100 km off the coast of Auckland. It was during this period that Jaime had the time to reground herself in the coastal environment and reflect on her travels. This new body of work comes out of these experiences.
A core source of inspiration for Jenkins’ ceramics is her love of nature and natural forms – the forms of kelp forests and rock formations of Great Barrier Island will be recognisable in the upcoming show. Collectors will be intrigued to see how Jenkins translates her experiences of the architectural wonders of ancient Europe into stoneware.
Opening Event: Thursday 6 June, from 5.30pm.
