Medium Cool – Journalism in Film, an exhibition of works by James Powditch, explores the interplay of journalism and film through a series of richly layered mixed media assemblages. Each work in this exhibition is titled after a film that defined for many of us, the role of the Fourth Estate and its importance to a functioning democracy.
Most are from a time when the media represented an agreed truth—a starting point from which arguments could be made and opinions formed. Taking everyday objects and ephemera, Powditch cuts and recombines the recognisable elements into fragmented and amorphous abstractions that hint at their original true nature but can now be read in a multitude of ways—like so much of the current media landscape.
Opening Event: Thursday 15 June, 6 – 8pm.
