Tom Moore is one of Australia’s leading glass artists and over the course of his career has carved out a singular voice within Australian glass art making. Highly skilled in a range of glass working techniques, Moore uses traditional processes in innovative ways to create fantastical creatures, objects and worlds that can be both amusing and alarming. His engaging, sophisticated and technically challenging hybridised animal/plant sculptures and the fantastical worlds they inhabit are deeply embedded in the history of glass making and scientific discovery.
Futhermore, using his playful and inventive imagination, Moore comments on the uncertainty of human existence in the face of environmental disaster and encourages us all to be more creative in our thinking and open to the experiences of wonder all around us. Playing with the paradoxical properties of glass, this exhibition presents hybrid life forms that challenge our perceptions of the world and our possible future – at once light-hearted and confronting, enchanting and grotesque, playful and insightful.
