Pouring Tea Until It Is All Evaporated is a durational performance-installation by Tarntanya/Adelaide-based multidisciplinary artist Jingwei Bu. Drawing on tea ceremony, Tai Chi and Buddhist Chan/Zen philosophy, Bu and performers Lisa Myeong-Joo and Natalie Quanyau Tso will engage in the repetitive motion of pouring tea upon a platform of white paper in a series of interactive performances. Throughout, gallery visitors are invited to sit and pour tea with guidance from the artist. As the tea leaks and drips, the paper stacks are transformed—moisture and tannins making their mark and shaping the final installation.
Performance schedule:
Wednesday 23 August: 6pm – 7pm
Thursday 24 August: 3pm – 6pm
Friday 25 August: 3pm – 6pm
Saturday 26 August: 11am – 2pm + Artist talk from 2-2.30pm
Pouring Tea Until It Is All Evaporated was developed by Bu whilst in residence at the SALA Nexus Studio. The presentation at Woollahra Gallery at Redleaf has been generously supported by an Adelaide Central School of Art Fellowship. Serving ware for the performance and installation was crafted by Montessa Maack.
