NAP Contemporary presents New Paintings an exhibition by Josh Krum featuring a suite of 7 large scale abstract paintings. These works are stylistically diverse, but each respond to certain modernist painting tropes, with the grid as a recurring motif. The paintings draw parallels between painterly subjectivity and the artists own Jewish culture with an emphasis on the myths, stereotypes and pathologies that endure in the public imagination.
Krum’s work is characterised by extreme technical and stylistic variation; he works often from time-based rules and material restrictions. In addition to his painting practice, he is also director of Asbestos, a house gallery in Brunswick, Vic, alongside Britt d’Argaville and Aden Miller.
Opening Event: Friday November 18 2022, 6-8pm.
