In Ash, Mud & Tears, Jude White and Michelle Walker present an exhibition of works capturing the devastation and turmoil of the fires and floods in the Northern Rivers.
Images of burnt trees, mud-stained homes and impacted landscapes are overlaid, scaled, altered and remixed depicting a time of great upheaval. Using a diverse range of media in their practices including textiles, wood, metal, mud, botanicals, ash, minerals and wax, Walker and White convey a sense of the rawness and force experienced during these events and the loss, disruption and grief that followed. The visible artefacts of fires and floods are linked across the work of the two artists through distinctive marks, colour and texture. Each work considers how our relationship to the landscape, and a sense of place and home can emerge during this time of recovery.
