MARS presents Intremities by textile artist Kasia Töns.
Intremities, brings together two and three-dimensional works made over the last six years from the pieces of cloth that Kasia used to transform her assortment of dwellings-tents, cars, swags and bushes into safe and welcoming temporary ‘homes’.
Kasia Tons is a textile artist working and living on Peramangk Country. Hand embroidery is central to her practice which sits at the intersection of art, fashion, and craft. Her process is slow and intuitive, colourful, and expressive. The labour and time invested in creating her work act as an antidote to the fast pace of the modern world and the addictive seeking of instant gratification through digital means.
“If extremities are the farthest or outermost points, then Intremities brings more than a decade of fringe dwelling back to the heart of where we are as a society, in the here and now. It implores us to look inwards and outwards to question the ways we exist in the world, as this is what ultimately determines our future” (Marie Falcinella).
Opening Event: Thursday 1 February, 5 – 7pm.
