Lake Views is a major solo exhibition of works by artist Luke Adams, conceived for the Museum of Art and Culture, Lake Macquarie. This project has been developed following Adams’ Lake House Artist Residency with the City of Lake Macquarie.
“Spending quality time in my hometown suburb of Speers Point offered some expedient creative reflection”, says the artist, “the residency allowed me to rediscover my own personal foundations within local landscapes and suburban streets. I also brought my own broader cultural knowledge to re-evaluate key signifiers of local identity. Many aspects of the artworks in this proposal reference my own experiences of growing-up near the lake and considers how these experiences have shaped me as an adult. I feel this project is a key milestone in my development as an artist. I hope that those who live near ‘the lake’, see something of themselves and their own culture within it.
At its core, this exhibition is a celebration of creative and artistic freedoms. My ultimate personal aim with Lake Views is to bring my own knowledge base of contemporary art back into my hometown, to show leadership within the local art community, and to influence a younger generation of artists into being bold, proud, and fearless contemporary artists.”
