Vivien Anderson Gallery presents an exhibition of work by Maree Clarke.
Microscopic images of river reeds in Murrini glass reveal a hidden world of intricate structures and patterns. At this scale, the seemingly simple reed becomes a complex ecosystem, teeming with life and detail.
Zooming in, you might observe the fine hairs and cells that make up the reed’s surface, each serving a specific function in the plant’s physiology. Tiny organisms, like algae and bacteria, might cling to the reed, forming miniature ecosystems of their own.
The interplay of light and shadow on this microscopic scale creates a mesmerizing tapestry of textures and colours, offering a glimpse into the beauty and complexity of the natural world that often goes unnoticed by the naked eye.
Opening Event: Wednesday 26 June, 6 – 8pm.
