Melinda Schawel pushes the boundaries of her media, completely transforming the surface of thick 640 -gram weight paper with a focus on the physicality process, while simultaneously retaining an illusion of effortlessness and fluidity. This new series of paintings extends the artist’s interest in nature’s delicate process and states in juxtaposition with the manually intensive techniques she engages, including drawing, drilling, cutting, tearing, painting and probing.
