Making Beds is a series of new paintings from Meanjin/London based artist Miranda Hine. It collates glimpses of intimate and grand domestic scenes that flirt with the genres of still life, vanitas and interiors. These are the highly personal yet absurdly public spaces of English historic house museums.
As these paintings provide obscured, manipulated and deliberately composed slivers of these places, they mirror the orchestrated stories that keep these houses together. There are traces of people, pieces carefully laid out to imply a life, things left out, things assumed. Making Beds considers the pervasiveness of these curated spaces and their implication of what and who is collectively valued.
Opening Event: Saturday 11 May, 4 – 6pm.
