Tiny Wonders presents a series of ceramic works by Melbourne based artist Narelle White offering moments of material delight. Made from Den Haag beach sands embedded in porcelain and hand-pressed into emergent, organic forms, the series first began during a residency at the European Ceramic Workcentre (EKWC) in Oisterwijk. Back home, and now in lockdown, these works continued to ‘hatch’ for the artist as though populating a lively imaginary landscape imbued with the mineral properties of their origins. With notions of animism at play, the works form an unusual collective of companions – united by their intimacy of scale, and their embodied shapes.
Narelle White lives and works on Wurundjeri and Bunurong lands. She has exhibited nationally and internationally, including exhibitions at the Ian Potter Museum of Art, McClelland Sculpture Park + Gallery, Craft Victoria, Australian Ceramics Triennial, European Ceramic Workcentre, Netherlands, Rhode Island School of Design, US and CLUSTER, UK.
Opening: 9 July, 2pm
