Oliver Watts continues his exploration of Australian society and Australian Art in his latest body of work, The Return.
The Marc Newson ‘Lockheed Lounge’ returns home (to Manly where it was first made) in existential crisis after a whirl-wind tour that took it from Madonna’s music videos to the Gagosian gallery. The now iconic international object is such a superstar that its Australian dreams and utopias have become global. In his characteristic manner that coalesces styles and different histories, Watts brings together disparate objects and landscapes from the sublime to the ridiculous. Visions and icons of utopian modernism such as the Lockheed Lounge or Integra Chair, are brought into the compositions to bear witness to their rise and fall, their successes and failures.
