This is the first exhibition of a video work made during 2019 while living in Lisbon. Cemetery of Pleasures/ Cemitério dos Prazeres (2019) is a single channel work that records the slow life of one of Lisbon’s city cemeteries (named for the red-light district that once thrived around it). The potential of descriptive form is explored as communities of people and animals, work cycles and daily life are carefully followed. In making the video I was curious as to the ways that a cemetery might be a site of slower ebb within speedy contemporary constructions of time.
Opening Event: Friday 18 November 2022, 5:30pm.
