Tamara Henderson‘s exhibition Spider with the Glass Legs brings her distinct and imaginative practice to the Warrnambool Art Gallery. Expanding on her 2023 show Green in the Grooves at Camden Art Centre, London, where she introduced four key figures – Gardener, Light, Director and Sound – representing different forms of energy that emerged from her garden composting experiments, this project focuses on Light. For Henderson, these characters serve as conduits for her ongoing exploration of transformation and interconnectedness.

Developed specifically for Warrnambool, this new body of work delves into the dynamic interplay between the physical body, tantric energy and the more-than-human world. At its centre sits Sunspider, a sculptural, eight-limbed entity who weaves together an exhibition narrative encompassing painting, glasswork, light and shadow. This dance between the ethereal and the tangible is a pursuit to bridge the physical and the metaphysical.

Spider with the Glass Legs invites audiences to experience Henderson’s visionary synthesis of materiality, energy, and the environment.

This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through Creative Australia, its principal arts investment and advisory body.

Opening event and in-conversation: Saturday 24 May 2025, 5-7pm
