Renowned for his distinctive fusion of references to traditional Anangu culture with his unbridled passion for Rock n Roll music, Tiger Yaltangki has created a new series of paintings and mixed media works on paper that give his audience an exclusive insight into how the artist experiences contemporary life in Australia.
Vibrantly coloured guitars, electrified lightbulbs and bold homages to his rock n roll idols AC/DC explode from this joyful series of self-portraits and depictions of his Malpa Wiru (Good Friends) – the Anangu Mamu or traditional ‘Spirit Beings’ who coexist in Yaltangki’s creative universe – resulting in an audacious celebration of colour, music, and self-expression.
Coinciding with his solo exhibition, Yaltangki is also exhibiting in Shadow Spirit in the infamous Flinders Street Station ballroom as part of Melbourne’s leading arts festival RISING from 7 June to 2 July 2023.
Opening Event: Monday 5 June, 4.30 – 7pm, with a meet the artist event 5.30 – 6.30pm.
