BRB Navigating by Shifting Stars features eight gouache paintings by Tricky Walsh that incorporate augmented reality, coming to life with animation and audio. The artist pushes the boundaries of traditional media, exploring the intersection of two-dimensional paintings and contemporary technology. Walsh subverts expectations of the relationship between viewer, artwork, and artist, allowing direct and personal interaction through the use of a smartphone app.

BRB Navigating by Shifting Stars is an existential exploration of humankind’s journey with mapping and understanding the world around us. Walsh’s fascination with stars, space and satellite navigation is prevalent throughout the series, whereby they investigate the symbols and imagery surrounding space navigation. Walsh’s voice is embedded within the works with the help of AR to explore and share the artist’s perspective on how we view and understand the world above us.
