Void_Melbourne presents SENJA DI PANJALU (Dusk in Panjalu), an exhibition of work by Val Wens.
The work is part of a discussion about the history of Vereenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie (The Dutch East India Company) and its questionable and destructive colonialist activities in Indonesia, particularly in East Java. The company’s main objective was to monopolise the spice and slave trade in the East Indies. In addition, the company looted Javanese medieval artefacts over centuries.
SENJA DI PANJALU references (in photography and video) culturally and politically charged sites across East Java.
Opening Event: Saturday 6 April, 4 – 6pm.
