NAP Contemporary presents a new suite of finely wrought paintings by Woody Mellor in his solo presentation At Least it’s Warm.
Mellor is a multidisciplinary artist currently based in Naarm (Melbourne). In 2012, Woody graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Art (Hons) from Curtin University, Western Australia. Following his acceptance to the MA Painting program at the Royal College of Art in 2014, Woody lived and exhibited in London until his return to Australia in 2020.
“As painting has become the central medium in my practice, I have tried to balance all the charm of paint, mark making and those ineffable ‘qualities’ that painters talk about, with my desire to think more broadly about exhibition making. I work on a project basis, developing bodies of work that grow from a single idea, in this case the greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, and from there I try to find as many disparate cultural connections to that story as I can and build my own interpretation.” – Woody Mellor, 2024.
Opening Event: Friday 21 June, from 6pm.
