Goulburn Regional Art Gallery presents what is happening in Australian contemporary art, now. It commissions bold new work from leading artists and encourages audiences to consider the work in new ways. Its three exhibition spaces showcase work from artists across the country alongside locals and its micro space, The Window, presents snippets from the permanent collection. The gallery dedicates much of its program to living artists and encourages lively conversation around their work.
Public and learning programs include masterclasses, meditation and movement, dedicated quiet times and rigorous discussions from a broad range of disciplines that intersect with the artists showing at the time. These programs cater for all ages, from babies to adults and many are free.
Practical classes are held in the Studio whilst private tours of the exhibitions can be given at any time. The Collection is held on site and holds work from Sharon Adamson, Del Kathryn Barton, Jennifer Kemarre Martinello, Ben Quilty and Jasper Knight.
AWARDS
The Good Initiative is a new, ongoing $20,000 award for artists. It is a biennial and responsive award, evolving at each announcement to respond to what artists need at that time. The first initiative will be awarded to a local artist to present a major solo in 2021. Submissions will open via announcement in mid 2020.
The Goulburn Art Award has been running since 1992. It awards excellence in any media and is open to professional artists living within a 120km radius of Goulburn. The Award is biennial and will be presented next in 2022, which marks the Gallery’s 40th anniversary. Submissions are encouraged from artists at all stages of their careers.
