Fiona Roberts joins Hugo Michell Gallery

The acclaimed installation artist finds new representation in Adelaide.

Hugo Michell Gallery has announced Fiona Roberts as the latest addition to its roster of represented artists.

Known for her psychologically charged installations and ceramic works, Roberts explores the transience of the human experience, mortality and the rituals we create to protect ourselves. Born in Darwin and now based in Adelaide, her practice navigates the grey areas between attraction and discomfort, confronting viewers with the often-overlooked complexity of domestic and psychological space.

Roberts’ immersive installations – seen in shows such as Façade (2018) at Adelaide Central Gallery and Intimate Vestiges (2015) at KickArts Contemporary Arts in Cairns – use familiar objects to question what lies beneath the surface of the everyday. Her 2024 solo exhibition Hereafter at Hugo Michell Gallery pushed further into explorations of mortality and transformation, showcasing a new evolution in her work.

With a strong exhibition history both in Australia and overseas, including London, Los Angeles, and Brussels, Roberts’ work has been widely recognised. She was awarded the BankSA Best Visual Art and Design Award at the 2018 Adelaide Fringe and her work has been acquired by major public and private collections, including the Art Gallery of Ballarat and is on display at Galila’s POC in Belgium.
