Gow Langsford Gallery is now representing Steve Carr, an inventive multi-disciplinary artist based in Christchurch, Aotearoa/New Zealand. Known for his playful transformations of everyday objects (and himself), Carr’s work explores the surreal possibilities hidden in the familiar. From turning fire extinguishers into glass to reimagining tyres as bouquets, Carr’s art is known for his distinctive humour and curiosity.

Carr was born in Gore in 1976. A graduate of the University of Auckland’s Elam School of Fine Arts, he has carved out a prominent place in the New Zealand contemporary art scene. His work spans photography, video, sculpture and installation, and masterfully explores the banality of human existence with wit and provocation. He is also a Senior Lecturer at the University of Canterbury’s Ilam School of Art.

Carr’s work has been exhibited widely across New Zealand and internationally, with recent solo shows including New Arrangements at Jonathan Smart Gallery, Christchurch and In Bloom (IndigiGrow) at the MCA, Sydney.

His debut solo exhibition with Gow Langsford Gallery is anticipated for 2025.
