What’s in the Stockroom?

To celebrate 10 years since we started our ‘What’s in the Stockroom?’ newsletter, each week we wander through one of the region’s premiere stockrooms to find out what treasures lay inside.

Art Collective WA

This week we visit Perth’s Art Collective WA, with director Felicity Johnston.

Sarah Elson, Lament of the Labellum – Cusp, 2016-2019. Recycled silver, 73 x 21 x 8cm.

“I am a sucker for Sarah’s exquisite sculptures and could have a whole room of them!” says Felicity. “By contrasting ephemeral delicate flora with hard metals, the labour-intensive, almost alchemic process, lures me in every time.”

Brad Rimmer, Nocturne Eiger Glacier 1, 2017-2020. Archival digital print, 75 x 100cm.

“This is a work that would work beautifully in my home. I already own one of Brad’s wheatbelt works and this Romantic European mountain scene, while a stark contrast, harmonises with it. In the Nocturne series, the accomplished sophistication in his approach to landscape produces an enticing and nostalgic atmosphere.”

Giles Hohnen, 2019 #4, 2019. Oil on linen, 167 x 137cm.

“Giles is a senior artist in Perth at the top of his game who continues to impress us with every painting. An exciting and refined use of colour penetrates free flowing forms, giving playful, confident and joyous results that build contrast and tension.”
