Pirlangimpi Women’s Centre
The Pirlangimpi’s Women’s Centre is a hub for all women. Especially to those that are interested in doing arts and crafts. You will find the women producing skirts, handbags, lamp shades and jewellery, along with pandanus weaving and cooking. Sewing is also a big part of the Women’s Centre. Clothing such as Tiwi skirts and shirts are made for funerals and clothing for children and babies can also be made if requested.
The Centre has also hosted Pampering Days where all women are welcomed to join in and get their hair or nails done. Information sessions around health have also been held at the Women’s Centre for everyone to attend.
The Pirlangimpi Women’s Centre also participates in the Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair in Darwin each year. They maximize sales there, of printed Tiwi materials, jewellery and other Pirlangimpi arts themed products.
The Centre is a safe place for all women.
To visit, please contact the centre. The public can visit – however, it will take a ferry trip or a plane trip to get there. Permits from the Tiwi Land Council will be needed for visitation to the community.
