D’Lan Contemporary is set to make waves in the Sydney art scene with the opening of its new gallery on Queen Street, Woollahra, on November 28. Housed in the beautifully refurbished ground floor of the historic former Post Office building, this new space will serve as a hub for modern and contemporary art by First Nations artists, accompanied by a dynamic program of talks and events.
“We are thrilled to announce the opening of a new gallery in Sydney,” said D’Lan Davidson, the gallery’s founder and director. “It is important for us to be here so that, alongside our programme of exhibitions and events in Melbourne and New York, we continue to further develop this critical segment of our country’s art market here in Australia, where it all begins.”
Since its founding in Melbourne in 2016, D’Lan Contemporary has grown into a global force, with a presence in New York and exhibitions at international fairs like Frieze Masters London. This success reflects the gallery’s commitment to raising awareness and appreciation for First Nations art both at home and abroad.
The Sydney opening will debut with REVERENCE, showcasing 21 exceptional works by leading artists such as Carlene West, Sonia Kurarra, Emily Kam Kngwarray and Bill Whiskey, alongside a rare 1972 masterpiece by Uta Uta Tjangala.
Lauren Harvey, the gallery’s Sydney representative, highlighted the significance of this move: “Sydney is a vibrant, art loving city and we are excited to establish a permanent base here.”
